Botox FAQs

The No. 1 cosmetic treatment in the world is the injection of Botox® into the face for facial rejuvenation, with millions of injections being safely and effectively performed. The reason is simple: Botox® delivers nearly instant visible results that soften the signs of aging and stress in the face.

Dynamic wrinkles are caused by contractions of the delicate underlying facial muscles that occur every time you smile, laugh or frown. The more emotion you show, the deeper these wrinkles and lines are likely to be. While you may have earned every one of your worry lines, you don’t have to show them anymore. The procedure known as cosmetic denervation uses Botox® injections to improve the appearance of worry lines, frown lines, laugh lines, crows feet and other dynamic wrinkles.

How does Botox® work?
Botox® blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines, relaxing these muscles so they do not contract. After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing typical facial expression to remain unaffected.

What is the treatment like?
Cosmetic denervation with Botox® is a simple and safe procedure. Using a tiny micro-needle, a small amount of Botox® is injected, very precisely, into several locations on the face. Because the needle is so fine and only a small amount of liquid is used, the pain associated with the injections is minimal. Most patients describe the injection as mild discomfort. No sedation or local anesthetic is required, and you can resume normal activities immediately — you can even drive yourself home or back to the office after the procedure. Some patients experience a slight, temporary bruising at the injection site. This can be covered easily with makeup.

Are Botox® treatments safe?
Botox® injections have been used safely and effectively for over 15 years to treat many ophthalmological and neurological disorders. Studies with thousands of patients receiving Botox® injections have shown that Botox® can be safely used for both cosmetic and reconstructive treatments for a variety of conditions.

How long does Botox® typically last?
Botox® results last 4-6 months depending on the area injected and the concentration of the Botox® injected.

Can Botox® be used to lift the eyebrows?
A Botox® forehead lift is a techniques used  to lift the eyebrows for a rejuvenated appearance.
