Visiting a Day Spa for the First Time
A Guide to Spa Etiquette and How to Get the Most from your Spa Day
Welcome to The Ivy Day Spa! We’re excited to help you embark on your first spa experience. To ensure you and all our guests have a pleasant and relaxing time, here are some important tips:
Before You Arrive
How to Prepare: Leave jewelry and other valuables at home. We suggest bringing a bathing suit for using the hot tub and steam room, and open toe sandals if receiving nail care services. For guests under 18, it is suggested to wear swimwear, athletic attire or soft loose fitting clothing during treatment. Note wet areas are clothing optional.
Punctuality: Arrive at least 15-20 minutes before your appointment to allow time for check-in and to change into spa attire. If you wish to enjoy the spa amenities, we recommend arrival up to one hour ahead of your first scheduled treatment to enjoy hot tub, steam, and relaxation areas. Guests receiving facials or nail services should avoid these amenities following treatments so as not to wash away products or damage mani/pedi.
Parent/Guardian Consent: If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian must accompany you, as well as sign a consent form. Please check with the spa in advance.
Health Information: Inform the spa staff of any medical conditions, allergies, or injuries so they can tailor your treatments accordingly.
Spa Attire
Robes and Slippers: The spa provides robes and slippers. Wear these while moving between treatments and amenities.
Swimwear: Guests may wish to bring a swimsuit for use of steam room and hot tub (required for under 18 years). Please note these areas are clothing optional.
During Your Visit
Quiet Zones: Spas are places of relaxation, so keep your voice low to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. Use of mobile phones are not allowed in changing and shower areas, and should be left in lockers. Instead, you may wish to bring a book, magazine or journal.
Respect Personal Space: Be mindful of other guests’ personal space. Keep conversations to a minimum and avoid horseplay.
Hygiene: Always shower before using pools, hot tubs, or saunas. Sit on a towel in the sauna or steam room to maintain hygiene.
In Treatment Rooms
Comfort Level: Guests generally undress to their comfort level for treatments like massages. Professional draping techniques are used to ensure your privacy. If you’re unsure or uncomfortable, ask the therapist for guidance. For guests under 18, it is suggested to wear swimwear, athletic attire or soft loose fitting clothing during treatment.
Communication: Speak up if you’re uncomfortable during a treatment. Your therapist is there to ensure you have a pleasant experience.
Relaxation: Use the time to relax and unwind. You can chat quietly with the therapist if you like, but many guests prefer to relax in silence.
Using Spa Amenities
Pools and Hot Tubs: Rinse off in the shower before entering. Follow the posted rules and be respectful of other guests. Please note the change area and hot tub are clothing optional.
Saunas and Steam Rooms: Limit your time to 15-20 minutes. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Relaxation Lounges: These areas are for resting and unwinding. Keep noise to a minimum and enjoy some quiet time.
Additional Tips
Gratuities: Tipping is a way to show appreciation for good service. If you’d like to tip, 15-20% of the treatment cost is standard, but it’s not obligatory.
Valuables: It is recommend to leave valuables at home. Secure lockers are provided, however sometimes a blissful treatment can trigger what we like to call “spa brain” resulting in things may be misplaced or left behind. The Ivy Day Spa is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Follow the Rules: Rules or guidelines may be posted throughout the spa, and all guests are expected to abide by them. They’re there to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.
Have Fun and Relax: Remember, a spa day is about relaxation and self-care! Enjoy the experience and take the time to unwind and rejuvenate. By following these guidelines, you’ll help maintain a calm and respectful environment for everyone. Enjoy your first spa visit, and we look forward to welcoming you again soon!
