Some Love for Hands and Nails
In addition to staying home, regular hand-washing is the most effective means of prevention of COVID 19. Public Health is recommending that people wash their hands thoroughly for 20 seconds at a time to curb the spread of germs. While vigorous hand-washing and using sanitizers are important, they can dehydrate your skin, leaving hands feeling dry, cracked and sore.
To help you protect your hands and treat yourself to some self care at the same time, we have put together quick tips for a relaxing at-home manicure. A small amount of preparation and a tiny bit of practice, and you will be on your way to beautiful hands!

Nail Polish Remover
Cotton Balls or Pads
Soft Nail File
Small Paint Brush, or Pointed Q-Tips
PREPARING HANDS + MASSAGE
- Remove old nail polish.
- Cut and file nails, shaping as you go.
- Soak to soften cuticles. Time with your shower / bath, or a few minutes in a basin of warm water.
- Immediately following soaking cuticles, push back and trim.
- Buff. Create the perfect base with a few quick strokes on each nail using a soft and smooth four-way block or buffing file. Buffing brightens, smooths, and creates natural shine in addition to removing ridges.
- Apply lotion. Take 5-10 minutes to give yourself a relaxing hand massage. Don’t skip this, its the best part! Once lotion is absorbed, and you are all relaxed, you are ready for polish if applying.
FINISH with POLISH (optional)
- Set up your polish area. Have polish, top coat, and polish remover accessible with lids off. Put a small amount of polish remover in the cap and have a thin paint brush handy to fix mistakes.
- Rest your hands so they are steady, and apply very thin first coat of polish. Start with single stroke in center, running from base to tip.
- Follow by fanning strokes on either side, filling in edges. Do both hands.Apply a second coat, in the same order as first. Keep thin for even drying time.
- Apply your top coat.
- Allow time to dry!
